About The Lake

Earley Lake is a great resource for those looking to go for a paddle, wet a fishing line, or otherwise enjoy some Time around the water.

Like many shallow lakes in developed areas, in addition to its natural beauty, Earley Lake is also prone to periodic algae blooms. The best long-term strategy to reduce algae blooms is to reduce the amount of phosphorus and nitrogen that flows into the lake from stormwater runoff. These pollutants can wash off yards, driveways, and streets when it rains and end up in the lake.

Maintaining a healthy aquatic plant community and a naturalized shoreline helps reduce algae blooms. Aquatic plants compete with algae for available nutrients and provide refuge for the only zoo- plankton that feeds on algae. Naturalized shorelines and buffers of native vegetation help filter runoff water and reduce the number of nutrients that make their way to the lake.
